Millard's Crossing Historic Village
Millard's Crossing Historic Village - Step back into history when you visit Nacogdoches' Millard's Crossing Historic Village, a reconstructed collection of log homes and Victorian buildings. Today you can tour these grounds and envision Texas as it was during the 19th century. You can even experience the hands-on fun of listening to a school teacher in an old-fashioned school house, pulling water from the well, and making music with a pump organ. Kids can try shelling corn by hand and pushing a plow before exploring the hand churn, wood stoves, and ice boxes. This is a great way to delve into the past! |

Nacogodoches Arboretum
Stephen F. Austin State University Arboretum - Set in lovely Nacogdoches, this arboretum offers visitors a chance to escape into a world of beauty and blossoms. From the colorful Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden to the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, you'll see the extraordinary flowers and shrubs that make this region so lovely. Learn about the plants that thrive in this area, sign up for the arboretum's newsletter, and even take a class in horticulture! Afterwards, take a tour of the stunning Stephen F. Austin State University campus to see glimmering Ag Pond, dramatic Steen Hall, or to catch a sporting event at Homer Bryce Stadium. |

Stone Fort Museum
Stone Fort Museum - Built in the late 1700s by the founder of Nacogdoches, Antonio Gil Y'Barbo (pronounced e-barvo), the Stone Fort stands as one of this area's most treasured historic sites. Numerous legends involve this remarkable building that was said to have housed the likes of Jim Bowie, Stephen F. Austin, Davy Crockett, and Sam Houston. Although the original building was torn down in 1902, a reconstruction has stood on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus for the last fifty years. The building is now an operating history museum that encompasses the Oak Grove Cemetery and a standing exhibit on the African-American Lumbermen of East Texas. |

Historical Houses of San Augustine
Historical Houses of San Augustine - Visit the charming town of San Augustine for a tour through the buildings that represent the important eras in Texas State History. Begin with the Greek Revival Ezekiel Cullen House, built in 1839, followed by the Matthew Cartwright House and the Stephen W. Blount House. The lumber for these homes was all hand planed after an initial rough sawing at the Ayish Bayou mill. Designer Augustus Phelps incorporated the five-pointed Texas star into many of his designs -- look for it during your tour! San Augustine also offers two beautiful churches, the 1848 Christ Church Episcopal and the 1838 First United Methodist Church. |
